The beautiful Bavarian Motor Works. Beautiful paint that is softer than a Mercedes but harder than a Tesla or Audi.
For this particular vehicle, the owner called us primarily for Paint Correction and decided to protect it with a Ceramic Coating later. The car was pre-owned and was well taken care of so it had minimal wear and tear throughout the car. The reason for the Paint Correction was because of the stray cats in their area scratching up the hood.
Anyone with strays in their neighborhood can tell you that they love to sit on cars and scratch them up. This car was no exception and had many surface level and deep scratches all over the hood due to cats.
As usual, we gave it a hand wash and spot clay bar to get things going. After that, we identified the problem areas and got to work. Most of the swirls, general wear and tear came out easily with a light polish.
The surface level cat scratches however need a slightly more aggressive Paint Correction method. This required a cutting pad and a few extra passes to get them completely removed. This was then followed up with a light polish for the best finish possible.
Our last task was the deepest cat scratches (catch on your fingernail) required wet sanding. Wet sanding is not for the light of heart as doing so recklessly can completely remove the clear, remove actual paint, or worse, take you down to primer or metal! After very carefully wet sanding the specific areas, it was time to remove sanding scratches is a compound and wool pad. Lastly, we finished with a light polishing pad to remove all imperfections and have a flawless mirror surface. Paint Correction did!
The last step was to put on a Ceramic Coating. After wiping all polish/compound away, we prepped the entire car with IGL Pre-coat to make sure there was absolutely nothing left on the paint. We gave the vehicle one coat of the base layer and two hours later gave it its topcoat. The Ceramic Coating process itself can be very time-consuming. A sedan this size can easily take 5+ hours from pre-coat to the final layer of the Ceramic Coating being wiped off.
We gave the owner the general care and tips for Ceramic Coatings and were all done. This car is now scratch free and has a mirror finish thanks to Paint Correction. It also has UV protection, heat protection, scratch resistance, anti-fouling, and much more thanks to the 4-year Ceramic Coating.
